Our well being or baby growth scan enables us to establish whether your baby is growing correctly for the amount of weeks pregnant you are. Although it gives us a “snapshot” of your baby’s overall growth, it’s the velocity of your baby’s growth that is of main issue. We will be able to check whether your little baby is continuing his or her growth pattern.
How do we do this scan?
We can achieve this by taking 4 measurements throughout the baby’s’ body these are:
• BPD: Biparietal Diameter (ear to ear)
• HC: Head Circumference (around the head)
• AC: Abdominal Circumference (around the girth of the abdomen)
• FL: Femur Length (thigh bone)
This will also give us an idea of baby’s weight at the time of the scan.
If measurements are found to be below the expected line for the number of week’s then Doppler blood flow measurements by ultrasound through the umbilical cord will be performed, this allows us to check the placenta is functioning as it should be.
The fluid surrounding your baby is called Amniotic fluid; we will measure this to see if this is within the normal range for your gestation.
Remember our sonographer is also a registered qualified midwife, so any questions you may have regarding your pregnancy, she will be happy to help answer!
Report
You will receive a full report documenting the growth of your baby by using a comprehensive reporting system recognized & used by the NHS.
After you’ve made an appointment
We will send you a confirmation letter within the next couple of days, with the date and time of your appointment. This will include a detailed map and leaflet. If you need to change this then we will be happy to try to arrange this for you.
Please note the above price is based on a single gestation pregnancy. Please add £50.00 to the price if your are expecting twins.
