Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?

Women have 2 ovaries, which are adjacent either side to the uterus. Within the ovaries there is the potential for thousands of follicles which follow a cycle of maturity.

Each month our ovaries produce a dominant follicle whereby we ovulate from, & as a part of our normal cycle therefore eventually collapses. This is routinely part of our menstrual cycle.

With PCO a dominant follicle is not produced, instead the small immature follicle remains. As this process is repeated this eventually enlarges  the ovary & sometimes hindering the possibility for pregnancy. You may find that your periods are very irregular and can not predict & plan for them.

There is no single test to diagnose PCOS. However working alongside an Ultrasound examination our Gynecologist will be able to assess the findings & check your hormone levels.
